Quinta da Romaneira Diversifies Hallgarten Wines’ Portuguese Portfolio

Specialist wine importer, Hallgarten & Novum Wines has set its sights on Portugal welcoming Quinta da Romaneira to its portfolio. Available exclusively from Hallgarten Wines to its customers in the hospitality and retail sectors, the addition will see distributor import the full range of wines from Quinta da Romaneira, including white, red and Port wines.

Christian Seely, Managing Director of Quinta da Romaneira, commented: “I am delighted to begin working with Hallgarten & Novum Wines on the distribution of the wines of Quinta da Romaneira in the UK.

“After acquiring Romaneira in 2004, we have devoted twenty years to the regeneration of this historic Douro property, and today produce a range of high-quality Ports and Douro red and white wines, all terroir-driven expressions of the unique personality of this great vineyard. I am very much looking forward to working together with the team at Hallgarten & Novum Wines, and the team at Glass Half Full, to expand and build our presence in the UK market.”

Quinta da Romaneira joins the Hallgarten Wines portfolio during a year of expansion, as the company has grown the team with 30 new personnel in 2024 and expanded its portfolio across the world.  The wines of Quinta da Romaneira will be available to taste at Hallgarten Wines’ two-day trade tasting at Old Billingsgate in London, on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th January, where they will be showing over 1,000 wines from across their portfolio.

Jim Wilson, Portfolio Director at Hallgarten & Novum Wines, commented: “The wines of Portugal offer so much regional diversity, unrivalled styles and authenticity, none more so than the Douro which gives our customer base great opportunities on their wine lists. We firmly believe the Douro is a hot-bed of incredible wines, particularly the higher-altitude whites which have long been overlooked by the trade. The region is an area of our portfolio we have been looking to develop further following the introduction of Quinta do Vallado in 2024, alongside our long-standing partners, Barros, and we have found the answer with Quinta da Romaneira. It is a truly amazing property with a quite stunning selection of still wines and ports. It is a fantastic addition to our list and we are looking forward to working with Christian Seely on this project.”

Quinta da Romaneira is one of the largest estates in the Douro region, with a total of 412 hectares and 3 kilometres of river frontage on the river Douro. The vineyards are planted on terraces on the steeply sloping hills of the property, with many valleys and promontories, containing several microclimates and various South Easterly, South Westerly and Southern facing slopes. Several of Romaneira’s wines are site specific and sourced from small individual parcels within the Quinta. Other wines such as the Dona Clara or the Reserva are sourced from various sites throughout the Quinta, reflecting the complexity and diversity of the whole vineyard. All our wines are made exclusively from grapes from our vineyard, a distinctive characteristic of Quinta da Romaneira wines.

Hallgarten Wines will be working closely with the team at Glass Half Full to help build the brand identities of a number of the latest additions to its portfolio, including Quinta da Romaneira.
