IWSC Importer of the Year 2018
We recently picked up the Award for IWSC Wine Importer of the Year, below is what the judges' had to say about why we stood out from the crowd.
This year's Wine Importer of the Year goes to Hallgarten & Novum Wines, one of the UK's leading specialist wine merchants, established in 1933, with more than 85 years' experience importing wines from producers around the world and supplying the premium on- and off-trade. Hallgarten's portfolio was boosted in 2010 following the acquisition of Novum Wines, as well as the subsequent takeover of Hallowed Ground, specialist importer of Australian wine, in 2016.
With a producer list ranging from iconic wineries to volume-focused powerhouses, the company's buying team - headed up by ex-Oddbins wine buyer Steve Daniel is able to source, blend and select wines relevant to the needs of the market, with quality and value at the fore. The range of more than 1,200 wines offers diversity and breadth, with four new and emerging regions added in 2018: Macedonia, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Majorca.
With exclusive distribution secured this year for Champagne Collet and Jim Barry Wines, the company has broadened its Spanish and Italian ranges and has new offerings from Bordeaux's Bourg and Blaye regions.
Hallgarten offers online ordering and next-day delivery, as well as a full design and printing service for customer wine lists. They also hold a number of annual tastings, themed roadshows and approximately 180 days of producer visits to the UK each year.
