Hallgarten & Novum Wines Secures Bruce Jack Wines Full UK Distribution

Specialist wine importer, Hallgarten & Novum Wines, has entered into an exclusive agreement with South Africa’s iconic Bruce Jack Wines to take over full distribution of its portfolio in the UK. Hallgarten Wines has represented the award-winning ‘Off the Charts’ range in the hospitality and retail sectors since 2023, and will now take on the entire range, comprising of Bruce Jack Lifestyle, Bruce Jack Reserve and Bruce Jack Heritage wines.

This new agreement further strengthens the Hallgarten Wines’ South African range, an area of its portfolio identified as a key growth category.

Jim Wilson, Portfolio Director at Hallgarten & Novum Wines, commented: “Bruce Jack Wines are one of the fastest growing and most dynamic wine brands in South Africa, and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with them, and be their chosen distributor and business partner in the UK. Not only are the wines outstanding in terms of quality and provenance, their ambitions for growth, and company ethos makes them an ideal producer partner. We are in a strong position at Hallgarten to help them achieve their ambitions in the UK market. The Bruce Jack brand will continue to be offered to the national retail trade and growing this market will be a particular focus for the Hallgarten sales teams.”

Bruce Jack, owner and winemaker at Bruce Jack Wines, commented: “This is a momentous change for Bruce Jack Wines. The UK is a crucial market for us, and to do the brand justice, we needed a partner with the same shared values and ambitions as ourselves, and we have found that with Hallgarten Wines.

“I have worked closely with Hallgarten’s Head of Buying Steve Daniel since 2001, when he first listed my wine in Oddbins. He has since introduced me to Hallgarten’s Portfolio Director Jim Wilson and the wider team, with whom I am delighted to say I now have strong relationships with. Hallgarten’s people-oriented company culture ensures potential for long-term, collaborative relationships that are not fuelled solely by spreadsheets. We first tested the waters with an exclusive, winemaker-driven, idiosyncratic brand called ‘Off The Charts’ from our Swartland vineyards, then in came the Coterie acquisition. I felt like I had to jump on a fast-moving train, and I’m glad I did.”

Bruce Jack Wines is made up of a small, dynamic team that aims to celebrate authenticity and provenance, not just in the wine they craft, but in everything they do. Head winemakers, Bruce Jack and Marlize Beyers, have worked together for over two decades since 2002, and both have extensive experience in many winemaking regions around the world. They have two wineries in South Africa, one for red wine and one for white wine production, as well as owning and contracting vineyards in South Africa, Chile, and the USA.

Human culture started at the tip of Africa, despite it being ‘Off The Charts’, so it is fitting that something as culturally rooted as wine should thrive there, inspiring the ‘Off The Charts’ wine range, crafted from grape varieties and regions that are South Africa’s viticultural cornerstones. The Lifestyle range delivers true value-for-money, expertly blending grapes from different vineyard sites across South Africa, as well as a small offering from Chile. The Reserve range is a more premium offering of small batch, hand-picked and hand-crafted wines from South Africa and Chile, and finally, the Heritage range consists of unusually rare, ultra-premium wines made in the Estate Winery comprising single vineyard site wines, and wines crafted from unique microclimates, and old vines in South Africa and the USA.

Every bottle of Bruce Jack Wines sold supports their HeadStart Trust which provides educational opportunities to marginalised rural communities. They practice regenerative agriculture, and their primary winery is solar powered. All Bruce Jack wine is accredited by South Africa’s Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) sustainability scheme, and Wine & Agricultural Ethical Trade Association (WIETA) for ethical business standards. In 2023, Bruce Jack featured in the World’s Most Admired Wine Brands for the fourth consecutive year by Drinks International, and Bruce himself was named as one of The Drinks Business’ Top 100 Winemakers in the World in 2023.
