Assemblage issue 13

In this first issue of 2024, we begin our journey across the Mediterranean, with Portfolio Director, Jim Wilson, giving his vinous view of The Odyssey and the time spent in Italy and Spain. Part II will follow in the next issue!. We also hear from owner of Feudi di San Gregorio, Antonio Capaldo, on what sustainability means to him. And award-winning wine writer, Guy Woodward, writes about the art of storytelling through wine. 

 

 

 

Assemblage issue 12

In the final issue of 2023, we have taken a closer look at the process of bringing wine from its winemaking home to the UK market. We receive a Shipping Forecast from Hallgarten Commercial Manager, Phil Selby, who paints a picture of how worldwide logistics has been impacted in the last three years. From Sales Manager, Christo Lockhart, we understand why South African wine is exciting the trade. And Beverly Tabbron MW explores why perspective is so important when tasting.

In the latest instalment of Hallgarten's wine-focused magazine, Assemblage, we bring you interactive content from all parts of our business and the world of wine. Head of Buying, and self-confessed Grecophile, Steve Daniel, traces his own wine story back through Greece's islands to the present day. Portfolio Director, Jim Wilson, revisits California providing an update on the iconic wine producing US state and explains some of the newest additions to our portfolio. And we hear from Matt Thomas, owner of north London wine merchant and wine bar, Vinoramica, on how his business has developed in recent years.

In the final instalment of Assemblage for 2022, we trun to guest writer, Guy Woodward, Editor of trade publication, Club Oenologique, to bring us his view of the toils undertaken in vineyards across the world. Guy has put pen to paper, talking about the incredible hard work families go through in the vineyard and winery to produce first class wines, and has picked a number of bottles to demonstrate this. Portfolio Director, Jim Wilson, also shines a light on California and the amazing wines produced in this iconic region. As well as speak in-depth to Hallgarten Head of Buying, Steve Daniel, about his passion for Greek wines.

in the Summer instalment of Hallgarten's wine-focused magazine, Assemblage, we bring you interactive content from all parts of our business. Our guest writer this issue is Olly Smith, expert wine communicator and Saturday Kitchen presenter. Olly has picked a number of wines from our portfolio to recommend whilst delving deep into the dirt to analyse how different soil types in vineyards across the world impact the wines we sell. We also hear from Hallgarten Head of Buying, Steve Daniel, on his Italian wine education, alongside our regular contributors.

Sustainability is a much-debated topic that often arises in wine industry. Portfolio Director, Jim Wilson, has analysed sustainability with regards to biodynamic, organic and natural wines, and also explores where else sustainability can play a part in wines and protecting our precious planet.”

Hallgarten Head of Buying, Steve Daniel, has looked at what it takes to make a great wine that doesn't cost the Earth.

Beverly Tabbron MW has looked outside of wine's comfort zone and examined the Brave New World of winemaking.

We have also chosen a range of wines perfectly suited to the upcoming Autumn and Winter seasons. 

 

Assemblage issue two

Altitude is a debate that often arises in wine, so Portfolio Director, Jim Wilson, has delved deeper into the subject and how relationship between altitude and latitude has some part to play.

Hallgarten Head of Buying, Steve Daniel, has taken a closer look at Argentina and how its winemaking has evolved since his first visit.

Beverly Tabbron MW has chosen some of favourite sparkling wines - not including Champagne.

We have also chosen a range of Summer Wines perfectly suited to the upcoming months.

 

 

Assemblage issue one

Following a highly successful and much reported trade event we hosted in January 2020, our lead article in Assemblage issue one is on Minerality.

It is such a topical subject at the moment, and one that inspires a lot of debate across the trade. We asked Jamie Goode for his views on the subject, and after a conversation with Steve Daniel our Head of Buying in front of an invited audience, Jamie put pen to paper with his thoughts which you can read exclusively here.
