David Williams rounded-up his 20 Best Summer Wines in the Observer yesterday. An interesting and eclectic selection, which included the 2014 Fleurie from organic producer Grand Pré.
Friday in the tasting room and our new Beaujolais Cru wines from Château de Grand Pré are two of a dozen or so bottles opened, and they are right up there with the best.
The Fleurie is light in colour but delivers where it matters; all raspberry and summer fruits with soft tannins and a smooth finish. The Morgon, meanwhile, is fuller in colour and taste with hints of white pepper and a great acid backbone complimenting the black cherry characters perfectly.
Great Beaujolais does exist, and we can’t get enough of it.
