In a nutshell: A red to serve with turkey if ever there was one.
The producer: Larry Cherubino is the superstar winemaker in Australia at the moment. His cool-climate, terroir-driven wines are helping to redefine Australian wines. In the last 10 years since setting up the eponymous Larry Cherubino Wines, Larry has won just about every gong going, including James Halliday’s Winery of the Year.
The wine: Sourced from several locations in the Great Southern, the fruit was fermented using a combination of wild fermentation and whole bunch pressing. It was matured in 1-3-year-old French oak casks for six months prior to bottling.
Tasting note: Leather and lipstick abound in this classy Pinot. The wine has a pale ruby/salmon hue and sweet clove and black cherry aromas. On the palate it’s all sweet spice, smoke, leather and black plum. All beautifully balanced.
